I was briefed by the super lovely folk in John Lewis’ decorating team to create a fresh take on a stylised natural motif, to be used across their home product and decorating categories, such as wallpaper, bedlinen and home furnishings.
The design had to include a soft vertical layout with movement and simple, stylised motifs eluding to the shapes of leaves, branches and buds; with a hint of floral but not overly so. The team were keen to include texture or collaged details to create areas of interest.
Looking at their existing ELIN and INES designs, I wanted to create motifs which were almost a continuation of these designs but with a contemporary updated feel. I used a collection of seed heads & pods to inspire natural organic shapes, which I then collaged using a mixture of dyed and painted papers. The team then took my artwork and turned it into the beautiful BEATA fabric.
